The students have been dancing up a storm this week with SoundKreations. The energy in the gym is awesome, and the students are looking forward to performing their dances on Friday!  A reminder that there is no school on Monday or Tuesday next week.  Monday is a professional learning day, and Tuesday is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Toonies for Terry
Thank you to everyone who donated a toonie (or more) for the Toonies for Terry donation campaign.  Alex Munro School raised $188.70.  Thank you for supporting such a great cause.

Meet the Teacher (Learn the Student) Open House Night (Tonight!)
We will be hosting our Meet the Teacher/Learn the Student Open House on the evening of Thurs, Sept 25.

  • 4:30pm- 5:30pm: Families with last names starting with “A to I” are invited to attend anytime between this time
  • 5:30pm - 6:30pm: Families with last names starting from “J to Z” are invited to attend anytime during this time
  • Families who have students in the same household with different last names can choose one time and come together.

There will be opportunity to talk with the teacher through “meet and greet” standing conversations, however due to the open house format, there will not be any private sit-down meeting time slots. Parents will have an opportunity for a private conference on November 28 once assessment information has been gathered. If you require a more formal meeting earlier, please arrange this with your child’s teacher. Students will be sharing information about their learning, classroom and school during the Open House.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Tuesday, September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day. Today students observed Orange Shirt Day at school by wearing their orange shirts and through classroom learning with the goal of understanding that reconciliation is to heal the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada. Building an understanding of the ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. Also, by engaging in activities that educate our students about this part of our shared history, we help them develop empathy, understanding, and a commitment to building a more inclusive future.

On Tuesday, September 30 there is no school and we encourage you to participate in observing this day as a family by wearing orange, participating in community events, and taking time to discuss with your children the importance of truth and reconciliation. Together, we can help foster a deeper awareness and appreciation for the rich and diverse histories that shape our country.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Event
All CBE staff, students, families, and friends are invited to continue their learning and show their support on Tuesday, Sept. 30 (9 - 10:30 a.m.) at the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day event taking place at the Confluence Historic Site. This important event is a collaboration between the City of Calgary, CBE, Calgary Catholic School District, Calgary Police Service and Calgary Fire Department.

To learn more about this event and others, visit the City of Calgary Orange Shirt Day  website.

Toys, Cards (Pokémon), Fidget Tools, and Key Chain Charms
Bringing personal items to school often creates a distraction to the learning environment and can lead to peer conflict.  Please support our teachers and staff by ensuring that your children are not bringing personal items to school.  If any personal items are required for projects or classroom learning, the teachers will communicate this through email or their Google classrooms. If sensory or fidget tools are required as an accommodation for learning, the teacher will either provide these for your child or will directly consult with you prior with appropriate expectations of how and when to use these tools.  Please do not let your child bring in any personal items unless you have been contacted by their teacher.

Bottle Drive Fridays
Just like last year you can donate your refundable bottles to AMPA by dropping them off at the front of the school (by the free little library) every Friday.  Our goal this year is to raise $2000 through our bottle drive Fridays. So far, we have raised almost $400.  Thanks to everyone who has donated already.

Active Minds Before and After School Child Care
In addition to before and after school care, Active Minds offers full day drop-in care for students on non-school days such as professional learning days. The full day drop-in option is also available during unplanned non-school days. If you are interested in full day childcare on a drop-in basis, please contact Active Minds by calling 403-400-3884 or by emailing info@activemindschildcare.ca for the cost and the dates that they will be offering drop-in full day childcare. The full day drop-in option is available to all students at Alex Munro school, not just students currently enrolled in the before and after school care.
