We had another great week filled with field trips! Thanks so much to AMPA for providing the funding for bussing for all our field trips this year which has kept field trip fees reasonable for families.

Sports Day | June 24
Our school sports day will be full of fun and active activities for students in Grades 1-6.  It will be held on Monday, June 24 in the afternoon (in case of inclement weather, we will postpone to Wednesday, June 26th).  Kindergarten students will participate in some of the activities in the afternoon as well. Please see this attached letter for more information.

National Indigenous People’s Day | June 21
June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada. June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day which also marks the beginning of Summer Solstice. Please see this attached poster inviting you to celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day beside SJAM school for an afternoon of Indigenous culture.

Lost and Found
We wanted to let families know that we do have many items in the lost and found.  These items will be donated after June 21st if they are not collected by families.  We will be sure to invite students to peruse the lost and found.  You are also welcome to visit the school to see if there are items belonging to your child.

Summer Garden Volunteers Needed
Students have been hard at work planting our seasonal beds and making our garden space beautiful. We need helpers to continue the efforts and keep our naturalization space thriving over summer break. Jobs that need to be done most include watering and weeding and mowing on occasion.

Sign up here to adopt a week of caring for our beautiful garden space! https://volunteersignup.org/7WAXQ

For questions and detailed instructions, reach out to AMPA member Sara Baker (saralindsaybaker@gmail.com ).

If you can't commit to a dedicated time, you can still contribute by grabbing a weeding tool and pulling a weed or two, or pouring a can of water on your favourite plants whenever you pass by the space on a neighbourhood walk. The water barrel should be full and ready to go after the water ban lifts, with a watering can and weeding tool hanging on it ready for anyone to use.

You can see the saskatoon berries, nan king cherries, rhubarb, chives and strawberries all starting now so let's show them some love!

Lunchroom Opportunity
We are looking to fill one lunchroom supervisor role for next school year and have been unable to identify any candidates through the CBE roster.  If you or someone you know is interested in this position, please email jabelcher@cbe.ab.ca for more information. The time commitment for this position would be Monday to Thursdays from 10:45am until 1:15pm daily.

AMPA Bottle Drive Fridays
AMPA would like to remind everyone that they continue to accept empty bottles every Friday.  All you need to do is leave your bag of empties at the front of the school. Thank you everyone who has been donating their bottles this year. AMPA is hoping to reach our goal of $2,000.00 by the end of the school year.

AMPA’s Next Casino Dates | Oct 5 and 6
Having the opportunity to provide volunteers to support casino operations is an important fundraiser for organizations such as schools as it brings in significant funds that go directly to improving student learning experiences. Please save these dates in your calendar as AMPA will require numerous volunteers for both dates (day and night shifts).  Please send an email to alexmunroschoolcouncil@gmail.com to let them know that you are interested in volunteering, and they will put you on the roster and contact you with positions available.
