The last weekly update of this school year will be sent home next Wednesday instead of Thursday. Also, a reminder that the last day of school is Thursday, June 27 and dismissal is at 1:15pm. Tomorrow will be a busy day of celebrations as the Kindergarten students will be putting on their first assembly as students at Alex Munro at 9:45am followed by the Grade 6 farewell assembly at 12:30pm. All family members are welcome to attend both or either assembly.
Sports Day | June 24
Our school Sports Day will be full of fun and active activities for students in Grades 1-6 this upcoming Monday, June 24 in the afternoon (in case of inclement weather, we will postpone to Wednesday, June 26th). Kindergarten students will participate in some of the activities in the afternoon as well. Please see this attached letter for more information.
National Indigenous People’s Day | June 21
June is National Indigenous History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada. June 21 is National Indigenous People’s Day which also marks the beginning of Summer Solstice. Please see this attached poster inviting you to celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day beside SJAM school for an afternoon of Indigenous culture. We will also announce our new 2024-25 Alex Munro Commitment to ReconcilAction to students and families on June 21.
School-Based Fees
Many of the fees for student field trips this year are still outstanding. We have sent home paper copies of invoices for those who have unpaid school-based fees. Please login to your myCBE/PowerSchool account to pay these fees. We appreciate your attention to this matter.
June Report Card
The June report card for all students will be viewable starting June 26 on the myCBE PowerSchool account.
Last Day of School – June 27
Last day of school for all students is Thursday, June 27 (early dismissal at 1:15 PM). Farewell to those students who have completed grade 6 or who are moving to new schools. It has been a privilege to have you with us and we wish you the very best.
Back to School Information
Please see https://alexmunro.cbe.ab.ca/back-to-school for back-to-school information for the fall.
In the fall, the office will open on Monday, August 26. School begins for all students on Thursday, Aug. 29. Teachers will email families by August 27 to introduce themselves and welcome students into their class. These emails will also indicate first day procedures as well as the doors to line up at for students to meet their teachers and classmates on the first day before coming into their classrooms.
Lost and Found – Last week to claim lost items!
We wanted to let families know that we do have many items in the lost and found. These items will be donated after June 27th if they are not collected by families. We will be sure to invite students to peruse the lost and found. You are also welcome to visit the school to see if there are items belonging to your child.
Summer Garden Volunteers Needed
Students have been hard at work planting our seasonal beds and making our garden space beautiful. We need helpers to continue the efforts and keep our naturalization space thriving over summer break. Jobs that need to be done most include watering and weeding and mowing on occasion.
Sign up here to adopt a week of caring for our beautiful garden space!

For questions and detailed instructions, reach out to AMPA member Sara Baker (saralindsaybaker@gmail.com ).
If you can't commit to a dedicated time, you can still contribute by grabbing a weeding tool and pulling a weed or two, or pouring a can of water on your favourite plants whenever you pass by the space on a neighbourhood walk. The water barrel should be full and ready to go after the water ban lifts, with a watering can and weeding tool hanging on it ready for anyone to use.
You can see the saskatoon berries, nan king cherries, rhubarb, chives and strawberries all starting now so let's show them some love!
