I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to parents, students, and school staff for a successful school year. This year has gone by so quickly and I have countless positive memories that have made this a very special and fulfilling year for me. Even more heartwarming is the fact that this has been my first year as principal of Alex Munro School, I appreciate everything that everyone has done to be so welcoming. Thank you to the students for their positivity and joy with a focus on learning and this energy and spirit has helped Alex Munro be a great place for learning.  I would also like to thank the parents for all the support this year as you are always your child’s number one cheerleader, and we all appreciate the role parents have played in the success of this school year.  A special thanks to the parents who have provided extra support by volunteering in the school or through being involved in AMPA.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable summer break. We look forward to welcoming you back next year for another exciting chapter. A reminder that the first day back for students is Thursday, Aug 29. If you are not returning to us in the fall, I would like to thank you for being an important part of the Alex Munro community and wish you well in your new schools.

Back to School Information
Please see https://alexmunro.cbe.ab.ca/back-to-school for back-to-school information for the fall.

In the fall the office will open on Monday, August 26. School begins for all students on Thursday, Aug. 29.  Teachers will email families by August 27 to introduce themselves and welcome students into their class. These emails will also indicate first day procedures as well as the doors to line up at to meet the teachers and classmates on the first day before coming into their classrooms.

Lost and Found – Last two days to claim lost items!
We wanted to let families know that we do have many items in the lost and found.  These items will be donated after June 27th if they are not collected by families.  We will be sure to invite students to peruse the lost and found.  You are also welcome to visit the school to see if there are any items belonging to your child.

Summer Garden Volunteers Needed
Students have been hard at work planting our seasonal beds and making our garden space beautiful. We need helpers to continue the efforts and keep our naturalization space thriving over summer break. Jobs that need to be done most include watering and weeding and mowing on occasion.

Sign up here to adopt a week of caring for our beautiful garden space!

For questions and detailed instructions, reach out to AMPA member Sara Baker (saralindsaybaker@gmail.com ).

If you can't commit to a dedicated time, you can still contribute by grabbing a weeding tool and pulling a weed or two, or pouring a can of water on your favourite plants whenever you pass by the space on a neighbourhood walk. The water barrel should be full and ready to go after the water ban lifts, with a watering can and weeding tool hanging on it ready for anyone to use.

You can see the saskatoon berries, nan king cherries, rhubarb, chives and strawberries all starting now so let's show them some love!

AMPA’s Next Casino Dates | Oct 5 and 6
Having the opportunity to provide volunteers to support casino operations is an important fundraiser for organizations such as schools as it brings in significant funds that go directly to improving student learning experiences. Please save these dates in your calendar as AMPA will require numerous volunteers for both dates (day and night shifts).  Please send an email to

alexmunroschoolcouncil@gmail.com to let them know that you are interested in volunteering, and they will put you on the roster and contact you with positions available.
