A reminder that next week is a short week with no school on Friday due to parent-teacher conferences. We would also like to remind all families that we love it when students wear their Alex Munro green shirts on Fridays, and they are encouraged to continue this tradition every Friday.

Parent Teacher Conferences
K-6 Parent-teacher Conferences will be held Friday, March 22 from 8am – 4pm, in person. Kindergarten conferences will also be held on Thursday, March 21. Parents/guardians can book a 15-minute slot with their teacher starting on Saturday, March 16 at 8:00 am through your PowerSchool MyCBE Account. If you require assistance, please contact the main office.

Spring Mud Puddles and Our Soggy Wet Field
Many students are getting wet during outdoor play. We are advising them to stay away from the mud puddles, however this has had a minimal effect on how many students are coming in from recess with wet clothes. Please remind your child that playing in puddles or in our field (which is currently very soggy) is only recommended if they have the appropriate rain boots so that their pants and socks stay dry. We also recommend that parents pack extra clothes so that if students do get wet they have something to change into.

Do You Want to Volunteer (more) at Alex Munro School?
If you are already cleared and approved to volunteer at our school, AMPA would like to connect with you to find out more information about your interest and availability regarding volunteering at the school. If you would like to provide this information to AMPA, please email them at ampavolunteers@gmail.com. AMPA will then be using this information when helping the school recruit volunteers for various school events. If you are not yet cleared for volunteering and are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Linda in the office at 403-777-6600, and she will provide you with the steps required to get cleared and registered. Thank you – we always appreciate our volunteers!

Bobcat spotted at dawn and dusk close to the school
A bobcat has been spotted near the school wandering around at dawn and dusk. So far it has been mostly timid and appears to be avoiding humans as much as possible. We do, however, want all families to be aware of this and to be cautious in the mornings as many of our young students walk to school in the morning. The City of Calgary is aware of Bobcat and has been monitoring the situation. For more information or to report a sighting please call the city directly at 311.

Ramadan and Physical Activity
We understand that students who are fasting in observance of Ramadan may have less energy during the day. To accommodate for students who are fasting, teachers will modify Physical Education activities. Students will still be expected to learn the daily lesson and/or skill and can do some practicing of these skills, however when the activity or practice of the skills requires a lot of energy teachers will allow students to take a break or sit out. Students should not be missing Phys. Ed classes as the skills taught are directly from the Alberta curriculum and is a requirement for students to learn. Again, all students are expected to attend Phys. Ed classes, and with the above modifications in place, it is not necessary for any student to miss Phys. Ed class.

You still have time to fill out the below two surveys which will help us plan for next year
Thank you to all the families who have already submitted their feedback. If you haven’t yet, we kindly ask you that you fill both out as this information really helps us plan for the upcoming school year. Both surveys are very short, and we thank you for taking them time to provide us with this valuable information.

Survey 1: Will Your Child be Returning to Alex Munro School Survey:
To help us with enrolment planning we are asking all families to complete this survey to indicate if you plan to return to Alex Munro School or not. Please take the time to let us know your plans as this helps immensely in school planning for the coming year.  Thanks for your help.

Survey 2: School Planning Engagement Survey:
We make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we ask you to share your perspectives about our school development plan, budget, and fees.  At tonight's parent council meeting we presented our budget and school development plan and have asked parents to provide us with feedback by completing a 5 min survey.  We are also inviting all parents to complete the survey regardless of your attendance at tonight's meeting.

The survey is open from March 4 to March 22.

Please click here to complete the survey.

Thank you for providing us with your feedback!

Safety and Traffic Reminders
Thank-you for your care and attention to the safety of all of our students and staff in and around the school each day.

Please use the designated crosswalks when crossing with students – crossing between cars or around busses reduces visibility and increases risk for injury. We have had few calls about jaywalking in front of the school.

A reminder that there is no parent drop off or pick up of students in the staff parking lot. Families must use street parking around the school.  Please note the no stopping zone in front of the school.  Please do not stop here.  This area is for safe pedestrian traffic and bus parking.  We will have a school bus and two daycare busses that need to safely load and unload students in this space.
