The grade 1-6 students have been thoroughly enjoying the inline skating this week. Thanks to AMPA for funding this great experience for our students. The students will continue to learn to skate the rest of this week as well as on Monday and Tuesday next week. Our grade 6 students are looking forward to attending Tim Horton’s outdoor school next week. Parents of grade 6 students please ensure you have received the packing list that was sent home last week. The grade 6 teachers will also be re-sending the packing list via email by the end of this week. If you have any questions regarding outdoor school, please feel free to email Mr. Anderson or Ms. Close. Parent Teacher Conferences Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Friday, November 29 from 8am – 4pm. These conferences will be a 15 min scheduled sit down meeting with your child’s teacher. Please bring your child with you as they will be involved as advocates of their own learning. The online booking system will be available through your MyCBE account starting on November 21 at 7pm (TONIGHT). Kindergarten families, please see an email from Ms. Holly about your conference schedule, as it will be different with added Thursday appointments. Would you like an interpreter for your parent conference? Please contact your child’s teacher if you would like an interpreter for your upcoming parent teacher conference and we will be happy to have an interpreter available for the interview. Just let us know which language you are most comfortable with for your child’s conference, and we will be sure to have an interpreter available. Scholastic Book Fair The Scholastic book fair will be in our school learning commons the week of Nov 25-29. Click here for more information. Students will have the opportunity to preview the books throughout the week and the fair will be open for sales during conferences on Friday. Cold Weather Now that we are entering the winter seasons it is a good time to remind families of our policy when it comes to students going outside. When the temperature with wind chill is below –20 degrees Celsius, we implement what we call a “green dot day”. This means that students can enter the school in the morning when they arrive between 8:35am-8:50am. It also means that students will stay inside during recess and lunchtime. If the temperature is warmer than –20 degrees Celsius then students will be expected to go outside. Please ensure that students come prepared for outside play in cold weather with appropriate outer wear including winter boots, hats, mittens and snow pants. Winter Concerts In December, Alex Munro School will be hosting 2 evening winter concerts. On December 5th, kindergarten, grade 1 and 2 will be performing at 6:30pm. On December 12th, grade 3,4,5 and 6 will be performing at 6:30pm. Due to fire restrictions and gym capacity, each family can request up to 3 tickets for the concert(s). To keep the ticket distribution process organized, each classroom has a unique link for ticket requests. Teachers sent these links last week. Tickets will be sent home a week before the concerts. If additional seats are available after all families have had the opportunity to reserve their 3 spots, we will give an opportunity for families to request more tickets. Please Read - Winter concert tickets will be sent home next week. If you have not already requested tickets via the Google Form that was sent from your child’s teacher or have not yet contacted your child's teacher about attending the winter concert, please do so by Monday. We will only be sending home tickets to those families who respond. Alien Inline Skating Residency – Continuing next week We are excited to be welcoming Alien Inline who will be teaching our students the techniques and skills of inline skating. Each class will receive 3 one-hour sessions. Please dress in comfortable clothing and wear socks. Alien Inline has some available helmets; however, all students are strongly encouraged to bring their own certified helmet. Thank you AMPA for funding this residency.
