The Terry Fox Run on Monday was fantastic. The students were so enthusiastic during the run and loved learning about the legacy of Terry Fox which was familiar for most students as they learn about Terry and the Marathon of Hope every fall. Thank you, DJ Chris, for providing the uplifting music during the run. It really helped motivate us to run harder! Toonies for Terry Thank you to everyone who donated a toonie (or more) for the Toonies for Terry donation campaign. Teachers will continue to collect toonies for Terry up until tomorrow. Alternatively, you can donate directly to the Terry Fox Foundation by clicking on the following link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/97276 We will be counting all the donations on Friday and will update everyone on the amount in next weeks message. SoundKreations Dance Residency We are excited to be welcoming back our favorite dance crew residency, SoundKreations, for a fourth year in a row! During the week of Sept 22-26 students will be learning the art of dance and movement. Stay tuned for more information about the in-school performance on Friday the 26 at 12:30pm. Families can arrive at 12:15pm Meet the Teacher (Learn the Student) Open House Night We will be hosting our Meet the Teacher/Learn the Student Open House on the evening of Thurs, Sept 25. - 4:30pm- 5:30pm: Families with last names starting with “A to I” are invited to attend anytime between this time
- 5:30pm - 6:30pm: Families with last names starting from “J to Z” are invited to attend anytime during this time
- Families who have students in the same household with different last names can choose one time and come together.
We will be sending home a parent viewpoint questionnaire, and families are asked to fill out return before Sept. 25. The questionnaire will provide the teacher the opportunity to quickly learn more about their students through the eyes of the parents. There will also be some opportunity to talk with the teacher through “meet and greet standing” conversations. Due to the format of an Open House, there will not be any private sit-down meeting time slots. Parents will have an opportunity for a private conference on November 28 once assessment information has been gathered. If you require a more formal meeting earlier, please arrange this with your child’s teacher. Students will be sharing information about their learning, classroom and school during the Open House. Fun Lunches – Healthy Hunger – Coco Brooks Our first fun lunch of the year will be Coco Brooks on Tuesday, September 23. The deadline to order is tonight at midnight (Thursday, Sept 18). If you don’t have a healthy hunger account and would like your child to participate in fun lunches this year please sign up at www.healthyhunger.ca Volunteer Registration Throughout the year there will be many opportunities for volunteering. September is a good time to get all the paperwork completed, especially for new volunteers. This includes getting a police clearance which is valid for 5 years. For anyone who already has a police clearance please fill out our annual volunteer registration form and send it to our front office (drop off, with student, or via email). The form can be downloaded by clicking here. Anyone who requires a police clearance can call the office at 403-777-6600 and we will be happy to help you with this process. Bottle Drive Fridays Just like last year you can donate your refundable bottles to AMPA by dropping them off at the front of the school (by the free little library) every Friday. Our goal this year is to raise $2000 through our bottle drive Fridays.
