Thank you, students, teachers, support staff and families for such a great and enjoyable first week of school. We are very excited for the year ahead.  Our first weekly message is fairly long – thank you for taking time to read through it.

School Staff for 2025/26
A list of our school staff for this year can be found on our website by clicking here.

Alex Munro Parent Association (AMPA) and School Council Meeting – Sept 8 @6:15pm (Online)
Our first parent council meeting of the 2025-26 school year is next Monday, September 8 at 6:15pm online.  We will be sending out a meeting invite with a Teams link next Monday. Joining this meeting is a great way for parents to get involved with school fundraisers as well as participate alongside school administration to make important decisions that support the learning of our students.

Volunteer Registration
Throughout the year there will be many opportunities for volunteering.  September is a good time to get all the paperwork completed, especially for new volunteers. This includes getting a police clearance which is valid for 5 years.  For anyone who already has a police clearance please fill out our annual volunteer registration form and send it to our front office (drop off, with student, or via email). The form can be downloaded by clicking here. Anyone who requires a police clearance can call the office at 403-777-6600 and we will be happy to help you with this process.

Sound Kreations
We are excited to be welcoming back our favourite dance crew residency, Sound Kreations, for a fourth year in a row! During the week of Sept 22-26 students will be learning the art of dance and movement.  Stay tuned for more information about the in-school performance on Friday the 26. Performance time to be announced!

Meet the Teacher (Learn the Student) Night
Building a strong school-home partnership requires both “meeting the teacher” and “learning the student”. September conferences are the best opportunity for your child's teacher to get to know who they are as learners from the people who know them best – their parents.  We will be hosting our Meet the Teacher/Learn the Student night on the evening of Thurs, Sept 25 from 4:30pm-7:30pm. The evening will include a student-led guided tour of the classroom and other main areas of the school. Parents will have an opportunity for a sit-down conference in November when further assessment information has been gathered. We will provide more details about specific timeframes as we get closer to the date.

Fun Lunches – Healthy Hunger
Our first fun lunch of the year will be on Tuesday, September 23.  Now is a good time to login to Healthy Hunger and update your child’s profile to their new homeroom teacher; this ensures we can deliver the lunches to the correct classroom.  If you don’t have a healthy hunger account, and would like your child to participate in fun lunches this year please sign up at www.healthyhunger.ca

School Photos
Photo day is Tuesday, Sept 16.  Students will have a ¾ length pose and a head and shoulder pose.  Retakes will be in October.  Information about school photos is available through Lifetouch at 1.866.457.8212 or on the ordering website www.mylifetouch.ca

Bottle Drive Fridays
Just like last year you can donate your refundable bottles to AMPA by dropping them off at the front of the school (by the free little library) every Friday.  Our goal this year is to raise $2000 through our bottle drive Fridays.

Staff Commitment to a Safe and Caring School – We all belong!
During our planning meetings last week our staff committed to working together to ensure Alex Munro school is a safe, caring and respectful school community where each and every student feels a sense of belonging. This week teachers have been working on building classroom communities that welcome everyone and provide opportunities for students to thrive in life and learning. Students have also been learning the important part that they play in supporting a positive classroom and school environment through how they treat one another.  If students are participating in activities or behaviours that do not promote a positive school environment, we will be following this process:

  1. Teachers will address student conflict/concerns/issues directly with students who are involved.
  2. If the concern/issue requires support from a parent or guardian, teachers will call home and work with families on addressing and remediating the concern/issue.
  3. If the concern/issue continues and is not resolved after parent involvement, school administration will work with the student(s), teacher, and families to restore and repair the situation.
  4. If remediation and restorative measures are unsuccessful and an issue becomes an ongoing problem or if a student involved in a serious event that in not in compliance with the CBE student code of conduct then school administration will take formal disciplinary action as per the CBE Progressive Discipline Policy.

Ultimately, our goal is to work directly with families to support students who are struggling with contributing to a safe and caring school environment through restorative measures.  We appreciate the important role families play in supporting our students be their best at school.

Safety Reminders in and Around the School
Thank you for your care and attention to the safety of our students, staff and community members in and around the school each day.

Please be attentive to the speed limits as well as the various crosswalks around the school, especially during the busy drop off and pick up times.

A reminder that there is no drop off or pick up of students in the staff parking lot.  Families are welcome to use street parking around the school for drop off and pick up purposes.

Please note that directly in front of the school is a no stopping zone. This area is designated as “no stopping” to support pedestrian safety and school bus loading and unloading. When crossing the street, please use the crosswalks.

We are pleased to be working with the AMA and Calgary Police Service team to resume AMA School Safety Patrols once again at Alex Munro School.  We will begin once training of staff and students is complete (likely not before the end of September).  This will support the safe crossing on 78 Ave. NE.

Thank you for doing your part to contribute to the great citizenship of this wonderful neighbourhood.
