This Friday is Good Friday and there is no school – Enjoy the long weekend!

Classroom Complexity Funding Update
Alex Munro is one of the schools that is receiving a complexity team which was originally announced as 1 teacher and 2 Educational Assistants, however due to the short time frame and the logistics of being able to assemble the complexity teams for the remainder of this school year the funding is being deployed differently.  We have received funding for a full-time teacher to help support complexity. We have also received funding to increase the hours of EA’s, ECP’s, or BSW’s who are currently already on our staff and there is no funding being allocated to adding new support staff for this school year. With the teacher funding, we have hired Nicole Smithanik, who will be taking over Ms. Jennifer’s class.  Ms. Jennifer will then be supporting the school with literacy intervention as well as targeted programming support for identified complex students.  Teachers, please fill out the survey that Jen sent out yesterday so we can plan how this support will roll out. You can click here to access the survey as well. With the extra support staff funding we will be increasing the hours of Chun and Zuny. The good news is that we will also be able to keep Alex with this funding as her temporary work here was enough time to consider her as a current staff member.

Alien Inline
Skating continues next week.  The schedule can be found here: AMS- Alien Inline Schedule 25-26 - Mar17.docx. We will also be hosting a family skate night next Thursday from 6-8pm. Staff members are invited to join us if you would like, however it is a school council sponsored event so there is no requirement for staff participation.

You can also remind parents about the option of students bringing their own helmets and that all students need to wear socks. Here is the information from Alien Inline:

Teachers should request that the students bring their own helmet (with a safety certification sticker attached e.g., CSA, CPSC, etc.) and remind all participants to wear socks. Due to health reasons, students without socks will not be permitted to participate. We recommend suggesting that students bring an extra pair of socks to help keep the equipment dry and for the participant’s personal comfort. Also, please have the teachers make sure students have sanitized their hands before entering the gym. Alien In-Line will provide a set of 40 helmets with assorted sizes from XS – XL to supplement the helmets that students bring from home. We may be able to provide additional helmets with advanced notice, subject to equipment availability.

Acceptable helmets include: bicycle helmets, hockey helmets (no cage), skateboard helmets, ski/snowboard helmets.

The following helmets are not appropriate for inline skating: BMX helmets, baseball helmets, football helmets, equestrian helmets, motorcycle helmets, any helmet with no chin strap, any helmet that covers the face, any helmet missing its outer plastic shell.
