Dec 14 - Weekly Update
As the last week approaches prior to winter break it is important to reflect upon how much growth your child has experienced since they started their current grade. We have seen so much growth in all our students, and we know you have too!
Giving Faire
Thanks to all families who attended the Giving Faire on the evening of December 7. Thanks also for your generous donations for the community giving activities. It was a great night.
Grade 6 Celebration of Learning
Our grade 6 students will be celebrating and sharing their learning through an assembly on Friday, December 15 at 12:30 pm. All families are welcome to attend.
Purdy’s Chocolates Pick-Up
If you ordered Purdy's chocolate through the recent AMPA fundraiser, your order will be ready for pick up today, Thursday (Dec. 14) from 3:00-4:15pm. AMPA will have a booth set up in the school gym with all the orders ready for pick up. Parents, please come to the outside North gym door for pickup.
Fun Lunch – Dec 19
Our next fun lunch will be Stuffies Pastries next Tuesday, Dec 19. The deadline to order is tonight at midnight. You can order at www.healthyhunger.ca
Breakfast Program
Each morning, all students can take healthy food from the Breakfast Program Cart. Choices are a variety of fresh fruits & vegetables along with freshly prepared baking and hot/cold entrees. All choices are vegetarian, nut free and gelatin free. All our baked and prepared food offerings are prepared by our fabulous breakfast program coordinator Stacie Delaney and she uses home-cooking inspired recipes that Include pureed fruits & vegetables, whole grains, legumes, eggs and dairy all of which provides outstanding nutritional value.
Please talk to your child(ren) and let them know that everyone is welcome to take something with the expectation that they do not waste the food. We have been seeing some food waste left in desks and garbage cans. Also, if your child has any food allergies or restrictions, please email sndelaney@cbe.ab.ca to let us know. Please discuss with your child if there is a reason you do not want them to participate in the Breakfast Program.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten Registration for the 2024-25 school year begins January 15, 2024. More information is located here: https://cbe.ab.ca/registration/registration/Pages/default.aspx
Pajama and Stuffy Day, Dec. 21
Students are invited to wear their pajamas and bring one stuffy to school on Dec. 21. Please ensure the stuffy is small enough that it fits on a desk.
AMPA Bottle Drive and Fundraising News
AMPA continues to collect bottles every Friday – just drop your bottles off at the front of the school every Friday and they will take care of the rest! Thanks to everyone who has already participated in this fundraiser. AMPA also kicked off their latest fundraiser on Nov 7. Information about this fundraiser was sent home with your child last week.
Traffic Safety
Although it is convenient to pull into our parking lot to drop off or pick up your child at or from school, parking lots are dangerous places when vehicles and children are in them at the same time. Parents, as contributing members of our community and to support our school, please do not enter our parking lot for pick up or drop off purposes. We have plenty of street parking around the school. Thank you for supporting the safety of our students.
Our patrols are doing a great job helping everyone cross at our crosswalk on 78th Ave, however many people are still jaywalking at various points in front of the school. For the safety of all people use the crosswalk. Thank you.
Winter Solstice – December 21
The winter solstice is a celebration of light returning to Turtle Island. It is the shortest day of the year; Grandfather Sun will begin to shine for longer each day bringing the promise of warmer weather, growth, and new life. Darkness can represent struggle, and light brings hope of easier times. The solstice is also a time of ceremony, stories, and song for some Indigenous cultures. It is a time of significance and celebration. We celebrate light and the return of Grandfather Sun - light sustains life and for that we have gratitude for all of creation.
