It was a fantastic time at the Halloween Family Dance last Thursday! What a wonderful turnout and a great evening of fun and community connection. It was so much fun to see all of the creative costumes, including the many adults who joined in and dressed up for the occasion! A huge thank you to DJ Chris for keeping the dance floor busy with so many fantastic songs, including some great Halloween favourites. Most importantly, a big thank you to AMPA for funding, organizing, and hosting this wonderful event for our school community. It was certainly an exciting family night out, and we are grateful for the opportunities AMPA continues to create for our students and families!
A reminder that Fall Break begins next week, with no school for students on Wednesday, November 11, Thursday, November 12, and Friday, November 13. Classes will resume on Monday, November 16. We hope everyone enjoys the break and has an opportunity to get outside and enjoy the last bit of fall weather before winter settles in!
Before the break, we will also be hosting our Remembrance Day assemblies on Tuesday, November 10. These will be important opportunities for our students and school community to come together to reflect, remember, and honour those who have served and continue to serve. Please see the information below for further details about the assemblies.
Due to the upcoming fall break, the weekly message will be sent early on Tuesday, Nov 10 next week.
Remembrance Day Assemblies – Nov 10
The grade 1 students will be hosting this year’s Remembrance Day assembly and ceremony. There will be 2 assemblies during the day, so all students have the opportunity to commemorate Remembrance Day. The K-3 students will be attending the first assembly at 11am. We will also be inviting public to morning assembly as it aligns with the traditional time of Remembrance Day ceremonies. The afternoon assembly will at 3pm and be attended by grades 4-6. Guests who are unable to attend the morning assembly are welcome to attend the afternoon one, however we are encouraging all members of the public to join us for the 11am ceremony if possible.
Alex Munro Parent Association (AMPA) and School Council Meeting – Nov 9
Our November parent council meeting be on Monday, November 9 at 6:30pm in the school Learning Commons. We would love to see you come out to the school and join us. However, if you are not able to join in person, you can attend virtually through TEAMS by clicking here at 6:30pm on Monday, Nov 9.
Popcorn Day | Fridays
Popcorn day is returning this year, with our grade 6 leadership students organizing and managing the sales to fundraise for their outdoor school experience at Camp Kiwanis in May 2027. Popcorn will only be one flavour this year (butter salt) and will be available for purchase for $2 per bag every Friday starting Nov 6. Thank you, AMPA, and grade 6 students for partnering up to run this fantastic fundraiser. We need to inform all families that the brand of popcorn we are selling this year contains the following ingredients: Popcorn, Coconut Oil, Sea Salt. Please ensure your teacher knows if your child is allergic to any of these ingredients. We also recommend that your child brings exact change if they are planning on purchasing popcorn.
Veteran’s Food Bank Donation Drive
From November 2nd- November 10th, 2026 students are invited to bring donations of non-perishable food and hygiene items (soap, shaving cream, lotion) to school. We will be donating these items to The Canadian Veterans Services Society in recognition of Remembrance Day and to recognize the sacrifices of members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Students will also be creating Recognition Cards with their buddy classes to be included in the veteran's food hampers as a way to thank them personally for their service.
Fun Lunch – Booster Juice – Tuesday, Nov 10
Our next fun lunch will also be having Booster Juice on Nov 11. All orders can be made through the Healthy Hunger website by visiting https://healthyhunger.ca/index.php. The deadline to order is Tonight (Nov 5) at 11:59pm.
Nutrition Program at Alex Munro
We have a robust breakfast and snack program that is available to all students. This program is supported by the Breakfast Club of Canada and President's Choice Children's Charity - Power Full Kids™. Offerings include whole grain items such as homemade muffins, bagels and wraps; fresh fruits and vegetables; proteins such as boiled eggs, cheese and yogurt. All breakfast food is nut free, gelatin free and vegetarian. Students can access the breakfast carts during our soft start from 9:00 - 9:14am, during recess and class snack times.
We also receive lunch food from Brown Bagging 4 Calgary Kids. Some sandwiches contain meat such as tuna, turkey and halal beef. This food can be accessed from the student's lunch supervisors.
Reminder that bringing treats from home to share with your class is not permitted.
Bottle Drive Fridays
Just like last year you can donate your refundable bottles to AMPA by dropping them off at the front of the school (by the free little library) every Friday. Our goal this year is to raise $2000 through our bottle drive Fridays. This supports events and resources that directly benefit students.
