We had another incredible week of learning at Alex Munro! This week, students in Grades 5 and 6 welcomed Mario, a guest speaker from the Tim Hortons® Foundation Camps, who guided them through activities focused on building community and developing leadership skills. These experiences provide wonderful opportunities for students to strengthen their connections, explore what it means to be a leader, and learn how they can make a positive difference in their communities. A huge thank you to the Tim Hortons® Foundation for providing and fully funding this valuable learning opportunity for our students!

We are also very excited to welcome families to the AMPA-sponsored Halloween Family Dance tonight from 6:00–8:00 p.m. in the school gym! We look forward to seeing students and families come together for an evening of fun, connection, and Halloween spirit. Please see the information below for more details, and we hope to see you there!

AMPA Hosted Family Halloween Dance | Oct. 29 | 6:00 – 8:00 pm | Tonight!
AMPA has planned a fantastic family night out for Halloween fun. Costumes are encouraged! Especially for the adults. The first 30mins of the dance (6:00-6:30 pm) will be sensory friendly with lower volume music and regular lighting. Also, AMPA will be offering a quieter activity area in the front hallway during the regular Halloween dance hours. Snacks and juice will be available for purchase. Parents are required to attend with their children.  Due to liability requirements, students without parental supervision will not be allowed to attend the dance.

Orange and Black Day | October 30
Students are invited to wear orange and black to school on October 30. There will be no costumes at school on October 30 (save this excitement for Saturday evening trick or treating). Friday, Oct 30 will be a regular learning day at school and the focus will continue to be on academics, however the day may include some Halloween themed activities. If your child wants to wear a costume to school, this will only be allowed during the Halloween dance on October 29.

Nutrition Program at Alex Munro
We have a robust breakfast and snack program that is available to all students.  This program is supported by the Breakfast Club of Canada and President's Choice Children's Charity - Power Full Kids™.  Offerings include whole grain items such as homemade muffins, bagels, wraps, fresh fruits and vegetables; proteins such as boiled eggs, cheese and yogurt.  All breakfast food is nut free, gelatin free and vegetarian.  Students can access the breakfast carts during our soft start from 9:00 - 9:14am, during recess and class snack times.

We also receive lunch food from Brown Bagging 4 Calgary Kids.  Some sandwiches contain meat such as tuna, turkey and halal beef.  This food can be accessed from the student's lunch supervisors.

Reminder that bringing treats from home to share with your class is not permitted.

Popcorn Day | Fridays
Popcorn day is returning this year, with our grade 6 leadership students organizing and managing the sales to fundraise for their outdoor school experience at Camp Kiwanis in May 2027.  Popcorn will only be one flavour this year (butter salt) and will be available for purchase for $2 per bag every Friday starting Nov 6.  Thank you, AMPA, and grade 6 students for partnering up to run this fantastic fundraiser. We need to inform all families that the brand of popcorn we are selling this year contains the following ingredients: Popcorn, Coconut Oil, Sea Salt. Please ensure your teacher knows if your child is allergic to any of these ingredients.  We also recommend that your child brings exact change if they are planning on purchasing popcorn.

Veteran’s Food Bank Donation Drive
From November 2nd- November 10th, 2026 students are invited to bring donations of non-perishable food and hygiene items (soap, shaving cream, lotion) to school. We will be donating these items to The Canadian Veterans Services Society in recognition of Remembrance Day and to recognize the sacrifices of members of the Canadian Armed Forces. Students will also be creating Recognition Cards with their buddy classes to be included in the veteran's food hampers as a way to thank them personally for their service.

Remembrance Day Assemblies – Nov 10
The grade 1 students will be hosting this year’s Remembrance Day assembly and ceremony.  There will be 2 assemblies during the day, so all students have the opportunity to commemorate Remembrance Day. The K-3 students will be attending the first assembly at 11am. We will also be inviting public to morning assembly as it aligns with the traditional time of Remembrance Day ceremonies.  The afternoon assembly will at 3pm and be attended by grades 4-6.  Guests who are unable to attend the morning assembly are welcome to attend the afternoon one, however we are encouraging all members of the public to join us for the 11am ceremony if possible.

Please Check your MYCBE Account
There are some yearly important housekeeping items that are required from our families, all of which can be completed via your MYCBE account.  These include completing the yearly verification of your child’s demographic and contact information, ensuring your child is registered in the lunchroom program, as well as ensuring all outstanding fees are paid and up to date.  Thank you for attending to these important housekeeping items, especially the verification process as Alberta Education requires that all our information is updated and current as of Oct 31st.

Bottle Drive Fridays
Just like last year you can donate your refundable bottles to AMPA by dropping them off at the front of the school (by the free little library) every Friday.  Our goal this year is to raise $2000 through our bottle drive Fridays. This supports events and resources that directly benefit students.
