October 26 - Weekly Update

With the chilly weather now here, it is important to mention that students need to come to school dressed for the winter weather conditions including a warm winter jacket, winter boots, a toque, and mitts or gloves. It is expected that students go outside to play for recess and lunch during the winter months unless the temperature with wind chill is below –20 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is below –20 we have what we call a “green dot” day where students come directly into the school when they arrive and stay in during both recess and lunchtime.

Grade 5 Celebration of Learning (assembly)  Our grade 5 students will be showcasing some of their learning so far this year, tomorrow, Friday, Oct 27 at 12:30pm for their celebration of learning assembly.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

AMPA Halloween Dance – Tonight!  AMPA will be hosting a family Halloween dance on Oct 26 in the evening from 6-8:30pm. This is a family dance so you can come as a family, including siblings that do not currently attend Alex Munro school. Students must be accompanied by an adult that is 18 or over. Dressing up in a costume is encouraged and makes it more fun for everyone! (adults included).  Please keep in mind that we do not allow any representation of weapons, vision limiting masks, or anything that is gory (costumes that depict violence or bloodshed).

Concessions will be available with a wide range of drinks and snacks for a dollar each.

For families who would like a more sensory friendly dance experience, AMPA will be offering a special time between 5:30-6pm with softer music and no lighting so that students who get overwhelmed easily can still enjoy the dance.

Please note: All children attending must have an adult with them. Students that arrive without an adult will not be permitted to attend.

AMPA Fundraising  A reminder that Nov 1 is the deadline for ordering from AMPA’s latest fundraising campaign. A brochure and order form were sent home in your child’s backpack last week. AMPA would also like to thank everyone for their ongoing bottle donations every Friday. Anyone who wants to contribute their bottles for school fundraising can drop them off every Friday at the front of the school.

Orange and Black Day | October 31  Students are invited to wear orange and black to school on October 31. There will be no costumes allowed at school on October 31 (save this excitement for the evening trick or treating). Halloween is a regular learning day at school and the focus will continue to be on academics, however the day may include some Halloween themed activities. If your child wants to wear a costume to school this will only be allowed during the evening dance on October 26 (tonight).

Remembrance Day Assembly – Nov 7 Our grade 3 students will be hosting a Remembrance Day assembly on Nov 7 at 1:15pm. All parents and family members are welcome to attend. Students involved with Guides or Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms on Nov 7.
