Sept 14 - Weekly Update
This week was filled with lots of music beats and fancy moves! The students are loving the dance residency and are looking forward to sharing their moves tomorrow (Sept 15). On top of all the dancing, classes are now starting to dig into lots of exciting learning. We are thrilled to be inviting parents into the school for our Meet the Teacher/Learn the Student Open House night next Thursday, Sept 21 from 4:30pm-7:30pm. More details about the dance show tomorrow and our open house next week are below. I am looking forward to meeting more families both at the dance show and open house!
Sound Kreations
It has been a great week of dance with all of the talented dance teachers at Sound Kreations. I’m sure your students have been talking about how much fun they are having learning the various dances. Our students will be sharing these dances at an in-school performance on Friday the 15th at 12:15 pm in our school gym. All parents/grandparents or other family members are welcome to come out and watch these talented performers! Thank you AMPA for funding this wonderful experience!
Meet the Teacher (Learn the Student) Night
We will be hosting our Meet the Teacher/Learn the Student night on the evening of Thurs, Sept 21 from 4:30pm-7:30pm. This will be an open house format. Families with their last name starting from A to I are invited to attend between 4:30pm and 5:50pm. Families with their last name starting from J to Z are invited to attend between 6:10pm and 7:30pm. Families who have students in the same household with different last names can choose one time and can all come together. We will be sending home a Parent Viewpoint questionnaire on Monday, September 18 that families are asked to fill out and bring with them to the open house. Students will have a checklist to follow so they can host the guided tours of the classroom and the school and then to quickly meet the teacher to go over the information provided on the questionnaire. Grade 6 families will have an additional scheduled mandatory information meeting about their upcoming outdoor school at Tim Horton’s Ranch in Kananaskis. This schedule will be sent directly to grade 6 parents from their teachers.
Tim Horton’s Ranch Outdoor School – Grade 6
Our grade 6 students and teachers will be going for a multi-day overnight field trip from Oct 16-19. This is a great experience that will bring the students closer together through team building, collaborative games and activities, as well as developing character and responsibility. They will also be living, learning and playing in the majestic Rocky Mountains for 4 days! This is such a great opportunity for your child so try not to miss out! If you or your child are feeling nervous, we need to chat, because I really believe that this type of experience is such a great opportunity for your child to build their character in a positive way around peers that they will be spending most of their days with for their grade 6 year.
Clothing Donations
We are in need of used clean pants sized 4/5, 6/7 and 8/9. If you have any extra clothing of these sizes and would like to donate them to the school, please bring into the office.
Terry Fox Fundraising Run
Our annual Terry Fox run will take place on Wednesday, September 20 with our Division I and II students running at different times. The Division I students will begin their run at 9:30 am and Division II students at 2:30 pm with each group running for 20-30 minutes. In the spirit of goal setting and perseverance, teachers will use non-permanent marker to put a letter of Terry Fox’s name on the arms of students as they complete a lap. Grade groups will have different goals with some groups trying to spell T-E-R-R-Y and others trying to spell T-E-R-R-Y-F-O-X, for example. Prior to the run, classes will engage in some activities such as watching a video about Terry Fox, having discussions about Canadian heroes and setting goals like Terry did. There will be a bulletin board set up at the front of the school with additional information about the Terry Fox Run. Families are invited to participate in the “Toonies for Terry” fundraising campaign for cancer research. Families can donate by sending money to school with students, which will be collected by classroom teachers or by clicking on the following link which will allow for donations to be made online.
