Our Sound Kreations dance residency has been a huge success, and our students are ready to showcase all of their hard work! A huge thank you to April for teaching our students such wonderful routines and for bringing so much energy and enthusiasm to the residency. We also want to extend a special thank you to AMPA for funding this fantastic opportunity for all of our students. It is wonderful to see the impact that our parent community has on the experiences we are able to provide for our students. 

The showcase is today, with two assemblies planned. The first will take place at 11:30 a.m. and will feature our Kindergarten and Grade 4–6 students. The second assembly is at 3:00pm and will feature our Grade 1–3 students. We are so excited to see our students take the stage and share what they have learned! 

Meet the Teacher (Learn the Student) Night – Tonight! 
Building a strong school-home partnership requires both “meeting the teacher” and “learning the student.” Our September evening is a wonderful opportunity for teachers to begin getting to know each student as a learner from the people who know them best—their parents and caregivers. 

We will be hosting our Meet the Teacher/Learn the Student Night tonight, Thursday, September 24, from 4:30–7:00 p.m. The evening will include a student-led guided tour of the classroom and other main areas of the school. This will be an opportunity to connect with your child's teacher and learn more about the classroom and school community. Families will have an opportunity for a more formal sit-down conference in November, when further assessment information has been gathered. 

Orange Shirt Day 
On Tuesday, September 29, students are invited to wear an orange shirt or something orange as we recognize Orange Shirt Day and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.  

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 
Wednesday, September 30, is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and there is no school for students. We encourage families to use this day as an opportunity to learn, reflect, and participate in activities that support Truth and Reconciliation. There are a number of wonderful opportunities available throughout Calgary for families to participate in together.

Walking Field Study Trips 
Field study trips close to our school can complement classroom learning by giving students opportunities to explore the community around their school. The process for trips within walking distance of the school is a simplified process from other field trips (this excludes swimming). As parents/legal guardians, you are not required to complete a consent form for your child to go on a class trip that is walking distance from the school. Appropriate walking distance is determined by the principal and varies depending on the age of the students. Teachers will provide at least 48 hours notice when planning a trip to a local or to walk within the community. You will be notified about these trips by your child’s homeroom teacher via email, teacher blog or letter. For more information, please follow this link.  

Garden News 
Thank you so much to everyone who came by to help the garden this summer. The water barrels are still out so that you can keep watering your favourite plants! 

October 1 - 9 > For those who adopted a plant over summer, there will be a small thank you bag at Ms. Best's desk. 

October 17 1-3pm > Fall Fertilizer Frenzy: make your own bonemeal! Bring your leftover turkey bones, coffee grounds and eggshells and see our demonstration for how to make your own home fertilizer. Learn about the plants in the garden, pull up some persistent weeds to show its full glory and get the beds ready for winter. We may wash up with homemade soap from our new garden soapwort plant! All families are welcome for this Saturday afternoon of fun. Hope to see you there! 

Volunteer Registration 
Throughout the year there will be many opportunities for volunteering.  September is a good time to get all the paperwork completed, especially for new volunteers. This includes filling out the Annual Volunteer form in School Engage, and getting a police clearance, which is valid for 5 years.  The form can also be downloaded by clicking here. Anyone who requires a police clearance can call the office at 403-777-6600 and we will be happy to help you with this process. 

Bus Attendance 
If your child rides the bus and will not be riding after school on a particular day for any reason please call the office at 403-777-6600 to let us know so that we can ensure we have an accurate bus attendance list for each day.  Letting us know helps ensure that the buses leave on time. 

Bottle Drive Fridays 
Just like last year you can donate your refundable bottles to AMPA by dropping them off at the front of the school (by the free little library) every Friday.  Our goal this year is to raise $2000 through our bottle drive Fridays. This supports events and resources that go directly to students.
